The researcher from the Institute of Marine Engineering in Rome received the award from the Applied Vehicle Technology Panel of the NATO Science and Technology Organization in recognition of his technical and scientific contribution to the organisation.
Andrea Serani has received the AVT Young Contributor Award – Spring 2026, awarded by the Applied Vehicle Technology Panel of the NATO Science and Technology Organization in recognition of his scientific and technical contribution to the Panel’s international activities.
The award was announced during the AVT Panel Dinner, held as part of the Spring 2026 Panel Business Meeting in Bordeaux, France. It recognises the contribution of the researcher from the Institute of Marine Engineering of the National Research Council of Italy in Rome (CNR-INM) to the development of advanced methodologies for aerospace and marine vehicle design, with particular emphasis on simulation-based optimisation, multi-fidelity surrogate modelling and uncertainty quantification.
His research combines advanced numerical methods, including parametric model embedding, reduced-order modelling, surrogate modelling and machine learning, with practical design problems involving aerospace, marine and underwater vehicles.
Besides recognising Serani’s international scientific activity and his collaborations within the AVT community since 2013, the AVT Young Contributor Award confirms CNR-INM’s role in developing innovative methodologies for the design, optimisation and analysis of advanced vehicles, with applications in mobility, transport, defence and marine technologies.
